“CIVIL WAR WOMEN II” NOW AVAILABLE

The latest book in my series, “Civil War Personalities, 50 At a Time,” CIVIL WAR WOMEN II: STILL UNDERESTIMATED AND INDISPENSABLE, has now been published and is available at amazon.com:

This book follows on my earlier look at 50 important women of the Civil War era with 50 additional groundbreaking women, including Laura Towne, the key actor in “Rehearsal for Reconstruction” on the Sea Islands. Others are Vinnie Ream, the scandalous sculptress of Lincoln’s statue in Statuary Hall, Mary Meachum, Underground Railroad Conductor, Elizabeth Blackwell, the first female doctor in the U.S., and famed author and Civil War nurse, Louisa May Alcott. I hope you enjoy this and the other books in the series.

Author: geneofva

Author of "Citizen-General: Jacob Dolson Cox and the Civil War Era," and of seven more Civil War books -- with more to come!!

  1. I’ve read four of your books, Civil War Women:Underestimated and Indispensable, Civil War Women II, Civil War Trailblazers and Trouble makers, and Civil War Rogues, Rascals, and Rapscallions and really enjoyed them because you used words and phrases describing character traits of each person making it easy to remember them. Also included were myths, truths, good and bad events of the war helping to add interest. I have a deep sadness in my heart for all who fought in the war because some of my ancestors lived in Alabama during that time and may have fought and suffered hardships and/or loss of life. The thick moss covered trees and dilapitated shacks tell so many stories. I met you on the Civil War Cruise down the Mississippi. Thank you.

    1. Sharon, Many thanks for your comments, and I am pleased that you enjoyed the books. And the cruise. I am going to be doing several cruises next year — I hope, given the current covid situation. If you could put your comments on the amazon.com web-site, it would be helpful. Best wishes for the new year. Gene
